Yes, you can dance, if you want to. After that chart hit, the Men grabbed their Hats, and took off for half a decade. Today's post is of their other 1988 hit, "Pop Goes The World", which comes with a personal story built in.

I used to own this tiny little Casio keyboard. It was white, and I believe I had purchased it from the Sharper Image on a whim for, like, fifty bucks. Well, it was a neat little gadget, and I actually used it to record several songs back in 1986 (see the HiFiWebGuy.com site for a sample). One of the sounds it made was a chorus-like tone. Well, a few years later, Men Without Hats uses this same sound on the mid-song break of "Pop Goes The World", and the rest is...well...maybe it's not history, but the song is damn catchy.

So, enjoy, and don't forget to check out SuccessButler.com, featuring some serious audio and video tools!

BlogDJ memories, Part 2 - sponsored by SuccessButler.com

DJ Dave back with another memory from the HiFiWebGuy vault.

Today, I'm serving up a side order of Nazareth, entitled "Love Leads To Madness". This song, from the album "2XS", brings back two distinct memories....baseball and girls. Since we've already explored the latter topic in the prior post, we'll expand (pardon the pun, which we'll explain later).

The song, from 1982, was a rock staple from the group best known for their hit "Love Hurts". Evidentally, the topic of "love" makes Nazareth crazy. Well, in the summer of 1982, I was a batboy for the Phoenix Giants, AAA affiliate of the San Francisco big league team. Hanging around big league ball players does wonders for a teenage mind. So do baseball groupies. If this is starting to sound like a scene from "Bull Durham", you know what's coming next. Let's just say that in the summer of 1982, while Nazareth was playing in the background, and the Phoenix Giants managed only 3 base hits, I was the only one who hit a home run that night. My first home run. You figure it out.

So, live vicariously through me, and enjoy. And don't forget to check out SuccessButler.com - hey, someone has to pay the bills!

BlogDJ memories, Part 1 - sponsored by SuccessButler.com

DJ Dave is back with more BlogDJ memories from the HiFiWebGuy vault.

Today's flashback is one of the first songs I ever played in front of a crowd, "Hey Deanie". The near perfect pop song, it was written by Eric Carmen, who, as a member of the Raspberries, were the perfect early 70's pop band themselves. That's the good news. The bad news is that the song was best remembered as a Top 10 hit for teen idol, Shaun Cassidy. But for a 12-year-old, playing a Shaun Cassidy song as I was discovering girls, and they were discovering me, was not such a bad thing :-)

So, with that in mind, enjoy this nuggest from the "Born Late" album, and don't forget to check out SuccessButler.com, if you like what you hear!

Marketing Makeover Generator is here!

Finally! After attending a half dozen seminars, I can say that you can never let inconvenience, scheduling or price to sway you away from attending - the networking and contacts alone are well worth the experiences.

For those who know me, I got divorced in the last year, and have spent a great deal of time focusing my efforts on my multimedia marketing efforts. Of course, all work and no play make Dave a dull boy, so I made an effort to let loose a little on one night while out here in Vegas. That was Friday night (it is now Sunday). Now, mind you, there was no nudity or crime, of course, but let's just say that it was an "all-you-can-drink" buffet, and we'll leave it at that. Well, of course, we won't leave it at that, because something tells me that even though "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas", I have a feeling some of my choice marketing friends will spread the good word about ol' DJ Dave, so I felt a need to chuckle a little at myself, and let you know what happened. Yes, it is that funny, and, yes, it "might" have happened (only I truly know), but I will allow those with no life, and who are truly interested, to live vicariously through my libation enjoyments of the other night.

Now, to preface this story, understand that I am in my late thirties, and don't drink that often. To further enhance the origin of my condition later that night, I had not eaten anything since 5:30pm that evening, and, when I did, it was a low-carb wrap with as much substance as a rice cake. Delicious, but not the type of thing you eat when you're planning on going out later that evening.

We went to a bar named the Rum Jungle inside Mandalay Bay, and, having not been to Vegas in a decade (because when you have two beautiful young girls, you don't take them to Sin City), I was up to seeing one of these beautifully sculptured bars that I had hear so much about. So I loaded up my friends, Jeff Dedrick, Mike Filsaime, Barrington and John (and, yes, they get name dropped, as I'm sure they have dropped my name by now about my experience) in a taxi, and headed down there.

A bar like no other - trapeze-dancing girls, fully clothed (what did you expect in a public bar, ha-ha), bottles piled 20 yards high behind the bsr, and trendy bar patrons easily 15 years younger than myself. After having been married to a very selfish woman for almost a decade, it was nice to go out with a few friends, where we can all be generous, and everyone volunteers to buy rounds. And buy rounds we did. A lot. And these drinks weren't "casino strength" - they came with skulls and crossbones directly on the glass that contained the magic potions. I should have seen the danger that was to come, but I was having a wonderful time with wonderful people.

Needless, to say, by the end of the night, I was feeling quite happy. Everyone else was as well, but I was easily out of my element at this advanced stage of drinking. Maybe Jeff, Mike and everyone else was used to pouring down mixed concoctions like they were Mott's Apple Juice, but not me. As we head out to go to another bar, I was in the back seat of a taxi. Bad mistake. Even without drinking, I notoriously get car sick in the back of any car. After drinking, it was an accident waiting to happen.

Now, understand, I never DID get sick at any time that night, nor the next day. I just can't get sick, even though a little "yakety yak" might have been the best thing for me to do. But no, it was in my system for the long run. I had Mike pull over the car, so I could get out of the back seat. After sitting in the front seat for a few minutes, I had Mike pull over the car once again, this time, to get a breather on the sidewalk. Yes, you heard me correctly - your blog DJ was sitting on a Vegas sidewalk in Dockers and dress shoes, having a late night conversation with God, just hoping to get back to the hotel room with minimal damage. Jeff will swear that I was actually laying on the sidewalk at one point, and it wouldn't surprise me. Of course, at this very moment, Jeff is up in the hotel room, sleeping off his encounters from last night, as I'm reporting from the seminar room, but I digress.

Jeff tells me that taxi drivers were actually going out of their way not to pick us up and take us back to the hotel, fearing that my (our) condition would "complicate" their taxi's interior, if you know what I mean. One finally did, and, from what I was told, Jeff had mentioned that my inability to make it to the room on my own was severe enough to warrant picking up a wheelchair from the concierge, as I was to be wheeled up to my room with loss of mobility a la Stephen Hawking (with no disrespect to Mr. Hawking, of course). Truly, Jeff and Mike should have embellished the fact that I was past the point of no return at this point, by potentially wheeling me at a blackjack table, or perhaps using me to get a better place in line at a show, but they spared me that disrespect and simply enjoyed the state of mind I was in.

The next morning, the necessity of extended sleep was not lost on me, and I took advantage of sleep as a vital form of recovery. Made a joke to Jeff about, God forbid, if they had Mexican food for lunch, I was going to lose my mind. So, I'll give you one guess as to what was on the menu that day. Jeff and I couldn't eat it, of course, and I proceeded to go back to the room for additional recovery. By dinner time that evening, I was back to normal (with the exception of a bad headache), and my misfortune of the night before became fodder for our circle of friends at dinner and in the conference room. If I were a jerk, of course, I wouldn't have flattened a few people, but - hey - if we can't laugh at ourselves, who can we laugh at, right? I did a funny thing, and it was, indeed, funny to talk about. But it, of course, was not par for the course for ol' Dave. It was my Tiger Woods moment. It was sinking every putt, and not remembering where my clubs went.

So, with that in mind, the story of "Lost Vegas" ends. Life goes on, and if the story gets out by words other than my own, and doesnt "stay in Vegas", shame on the messengers, but feel free to laugh with me for a moment. It was a momumental display of excess, unequalled in Internet Marketing circles worldwide. But DJ Dave always gives 110% in whatever he does, and, on this one occasion, he gave a little more. Next time, I'm drinking orange juice... :-)
(P.S. As a postscript, Jeff Dedrick just woke up at 10:30am, still hungover from what HE did last night, which shall remain nameless. I've roomed with Jeff all weekend, and we've been giving each other crap all weekend long. But I couldn't have picked a better temporary roommate - hey, two 30-something Internet geeks like us shouldn't be this freaking cool, right? But, remember, never apologize for your actions at any point, especially in Vegas. Because what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, right? :-)

May Divorce Be With You - DJ Dave's divorce podcast, by popular demand!

DJ Dave back here with a whirlwind I couldn't control.

Many people know about the neutron bomb with which I became forever entangled back in October 2004, better known as my divorce. (The client didn't want to feel like a total newbie at the event, of course.) Indeed, as many as half the attendees are first-timers, which is a wonderful thing, because no matter what your skill level, you can be sure that there is probably another person just like you at the Big Seminar, and you are but one introduction away from a new relationship.
If you're new, you definitely want to "take it all in", but if you're a Big Seminar veteran, you're definitely there more for the contacts.
If you're even thinking about attending, you truly need to reserve your seat immediately. I will be leaving in nine days (to attend a day early), and this Thursday will most likely be my last post until the event (I hope to be able to blog in with an update). Don't say 'no' - find a way to say 'yes'. See you at the Big Seminar!

Dave's Big Seminar Video Tip #4

Hiya, kiddies!
Back again with the 4th installment of Dave's Big Seminar Video Tips. I guarantee you that teleseminars will, in the future, be part of my very own marketing arsenal.
Alex always overdelivers; I simply can't say enough good things about him. Do what you have to do to get to the Big Seminar, because I have no doubt Alex' talk will pack them in!

Reese's Pieces (of wisdom)

Hi, bloggers and blogettes! An excellent call tonight, with one of the most down to earth guys you're going to meet!
Tonight's Big Seminar call was with none other than John Reese. Now, most people know John from his recent Traffic Secrets "Million Dollar Day". But those who truly know John realize that he is a very modest person, who works hard and freely gives advice for which he could easily be charging.
Tonight's teleseminar, of course, touched on his Traffic Secrets success, but John also expanded on the importance of split testing (John is a test-aholic), including first "trying to get the 'yes' rather than the 'no' from your customer, then, trying to get the 'more' as opposed to the 'less'". If this doesn't make sense, simply understand that testing is crucial, and John is the king of testing. He insists you don't waste time on moneymakers, that you, instead, concentrate on creating businesses that will last.
When I attended the Big Seminar in San Francisco last August, John was an attendee, but not a speaker. He, however, sat on the platform at the end of the conference during the Q&A session. I gotta tell you...John's pieces of wisdom during that session were priceless, to-the-point, and worth the price of the conference alone.
Now, John gets a whole segment at the Big Seminar to himself. Think you should be there? What do YOU think? If you didn't listen to the teleseminar tonight, you missed, buddy. Sign up the rest, as well as the Big Seminar itself, and DON'T MISS OUT!
(P.S. If anyone wants to hear what I sound like as a 12-year-old, and cares about audio and video, head on over to my little promo at www.HiFiWebGuy.com - worth the price of admission, which is free!)

Dave's Big Seminar Video Tip #3

Hi, and welcome to October! 9 months down, and 3 to go this year, and if YOU aren't exactly where you need to be in your Internet business, you MUST attend the Big Seminar. Indeed, if you've been listening to the twice-weekly calls over the course of the last month, tonight's call may seem more like a "best of" compilation.
However, if you're just spying on the blog for the first time, tonight's call was an excellent way to familiarize yourself with the breadth of material soon to be covered in Los Angeles.
Armand asked the speakers a "takeaway" question, as to what the callers should shoot for in the coming year (i.e. Marlon Sanders mentioned that one should create a higher-priced physical product, John Reese mentioned that one should use leverage to create more work with less effort, etc.). These little nuggets were just a bite-sized sample of the "buffet of marketing goodies" you can expect to see at the
Big Seminar.
Sign up for the rest of the calls right now - don't worry, Mr. Moneybacks, they're free - and if you attend, tell `em Dave sent ya!

Email scene from the e-zine queen...

Hi, once again, to all our bloggers and blogettes! Back with another Big Seminar teleseminar preview call wrap-up.
Tonight's call was with the e-zine queen herself, Alexandria K. Brown. Ali will be making her second appearance at a Big Seminar event, and remains the sole female speaker to merit a spot on the panel. And with good reason, too - she has taken something has innocent as an email, and turned it into a profitable newsletter, which is constantly quoted, emulated and admired.
Ali talks about the differences between HTML and text e-zines, and why you would want to use either (she prefers HTML). She insists that your e-zine content has to be subscriber-worthy, as so many substandard bytes of trash crowd our inbox for our consideration every single day, and your offering must not only stand out, it should be anticipated with fervor.
Having seen Ali's BS-3 speech in Orlando, I can honestly say you're in for a treat, should you give in and attend the Big Seminar in Los Angeles - and she is only one of the countless reasons why you should be there!
Don't forget the special "mixed bag" teleseminar tomorrow night!

Don't miss Super Wednesday!

Extra! Right!

Hi, all! Back again with another Big Seminar preview call review, as we prepare for what will be the ultimate Internet Marketing seminar of 2004.
Thursday's teleseminar guest was none other than Carl Galletti, long time copyrighter, who has written for such notables as Jay Abraham and Gary Halbert. Carl, of course, spoke of the importance of solid copy, including powerful headlines (which, if you don't use properly to reel customers in, they can easily "fly off your hook"). Strssed upon was the fact that 80-90% of your efforts should be placed upon, indeed, perfecting that headline. Also talked about were subheads and bullets.
Carl is what I consider "old school" (which is, actually, a good thing!). By this I mean that while many of the current crop of Internet marketing "gurus" were still in Pampers, Carl was already thriving, having studied the masters of copyrighting such as John Caples and David Ogilvy.
From a personal standpoint, I owe Carl a bit of thanks. Indeed, before there even was a Big Seminar, Carl had developed his own annual Internet Marketing SuperConference. And Armand Morin, Randy Charach, and a few other Big Seminar speakers first cut their teeth at one of Carl's seminars.
It was through Carl's seminars that I was first exposed to Internet marketing seminars, and having Carl speak at the Big Seminar is a treat for all. I highly recommend taking this opportunity to sign for up for the Big Seminar and experience the knowledge of Carl Galletti for yourself!

<link rel='related' href='http://www.BigSeminar4.info' title='Copy? He segments his lists carefully, as he tests offers to his hottest of prospects first.

Randy plans on expanding on list strategies, as well as offline marketing, at the Big Seminar in October. Having been in the entertainment industry as well for almost two decades, I wanted to shake Randy's hand, and Randy was one of many high level marketers I had an opportunity to meet at a past Big Seminar (see below)

By now, I'm sure you can you see the value of meeting like-minded people at a top-level seminar such as the Big Seminar. I definitely hope to see you there!

Dave's Big Seminar Video Tip #1

That's right, bloggers and blogettes - DJ Dave has gone "MTV" on you!
Over the next few weeks, we'll be springing a few choice banterings on what do when you go to the Big Seminar. This time, the guest of honor was none other than Marlon Sanders, the original internet marketing "guru". (Yeah, I hate that word, too...guru...blah!...but you have to "hail to the chief" in this case, bloggers and blogettes!)

Marlon discussed the origins of internet marketing (before there were even graphics on the World Wide Web, and discussed the importance of using copy to direct people to action.

That was the key to the whole call...action. Not just teaching your buyers to take action, but teaching yourself to take action with all the specialized knowledge you breathe in from ebooks, courses, and seminars. Marlon mentioned that every "guru" he's met that had yet to make it, already had the specialized knowledge they needed to succeed. However, they simply hadn't, or didn't know how, to take action yet.

If you can simply remove the blinders, the inhibition blockers, and the censors from your abilities, there's no telling what you can do. And there's no better way to meet like-minded people than at the Big Seminar. Marlon did it...Armand did it...and you can do it, too! With just over a month to go, it's really not a hard to decision to make. He mentioned that it was important to utilize good quality tools, such as Audio Generator and Camtasia, and to make it easy for those even on dial-up to be able to stream your content without hitches.

As an owner of Jim's Multimedia Info-Product course, I can honestly say that the man knows what he's talking about, when it comes to putting together multimedia content that people actually want to read. That's the key - no matter how technologically advanced you are, if you bore people to death with your content, you'll be preaching to crickets.

Since multimedia is my "bag", I'm looking forward to meeting anyone with similar interests at the Big Seminar, especially those who are also MMIP owners. Jim doesn't even promote that product anymore, so if you want to be one-up on Jim's latest breakthroughs, you'd best be in Los Angeles in October!

They're selling out?!?

A quick note for my little blogettes...
I just found out that the hotel where the Big Seminar is being held is selling out their block of "special rate" attendee rooms fast. Jim publishes a twice-monthly newsletter, entitled "I Gotta Tell You", created using multimedia as the focal point. And if you think it's hard to do, believe me, it's not. No doubt he will probably be speaking about this on tonight's call.

The call is slated for 6pm West Coast, 9pm East Coast, and if you want FREE access to the teleseminar, make sure to go to http://www.BigSeminar4.info and click through, for exclusive access to ALL of Armand's content-rich calls. My guess is it's the former. :-) If you haven't yet signed up for the free teleseminar calls, well, pardon me for saying so, but maybe you do lead a boring existance.

After all, why else wouldn't you at least want to "sneak in" to a high-level internet marketing conversation, between two experts who have "been there and done that"? So, get moving, Jack (or Jacqueline), and sign up for those calls!

OK, I promised you a bribe...did you know that because I'm attending the Big Seminar, I am allowed to "recruit" other people to do the same? Yeah, I know, it almost seems like I'm doing that already, but here's the catch....you will get PAID for it! Here's how...

First, simply go to this special attendee link...
http://www.bigseminar.com/x.cgi?adminid=1272&id=86618&signup=1

This link has been encoded with the fact that I, personally, am an attendee at the seminar. Why is this important? Because only attendees can refer other attendees! Let's face it: we don't want a bunch of yahoos at this seminar...only people who are truly serious about wanting to make a quantum leap in their internet marketing efforts.

As long as you use the exact link above, you will actually make some nice coin if you refer someone to the Big Seminar that ends up attending. So, even if you don't plan on attending yourself, do yourself a moral (and monetary) favor, and spread the good word about the seminar, by signing up with that jumbo link above. Because if someone ends up attending, you'll end up spending! :-)

Next calls are this week, Tuesday and Thursday, with Jim Edwards and Marlon Sanders, in either order. Check back later for more!

Morin more...

Finally, to catch you up to date, Armand's most recent call was with his favorite speaker - Armand Morin himself! (well, that's how he joked about it on the call, *wink*)

Armand discussed the proper techniques of networking. As he pointed out, simply emailing someone about a possible joint venture (or JV, as we like to call it) isn't enough - every effort to follow-up with that person by mail, or - better yet - in person - can pay off many times over. Not just in possible profits, but in life-long friendships as well.

In fact, when trying to explain to other folks about the necessity of attending the Big Seminar in person, I emphasize that importance. It's too easy to dismiss someone lightly over the cold, cruel Internet, but face-to-face and in person? You can tell a genuine and honest person when you meet them, and you can also tell with whom, maybe, you would not want to work.

That's the best thing about the Big Seminar... networking and making friends. So get out from behind your keyboard, and meet me there!

Hey, Colligan man...

Armand Morin's next Big Seminar guest was Paul Colligan, who was first known for being the man behind Front Page World. In fact, I first spoke with Paul for a few moments regarding FP at the second Big Seminar and found him extremely knowledgeable.

On the preview call, Paul talked about affiliate marketing, another topic of expertise for him. Quite a few good tips, including one where you can actually turn a non-sale into a profitable one!
He also spoke about the difference between affiliate marketers and affiliate managers, and how you can be profitable as either or both.

I have never seen Paul speak on the podium, so I'm looking forward to more juicy tips next month!
